This is pretty good. But also, in the beginning the woman makes it sound like they are on tour right now and everyone already knows what those 25 cities are. When in reality, not knowing what those 25 cities are stresses me right the fuck out. Are they even going on tour? WHEN?! How has there been no word about it? Dude. DUDE. So frustrating and makes me so anxious.

This is the craziest, coolest picture of all time. They all look ridiculous. Daesung is making some strange seduction face that isn’t really working. The rest of them, except TOP, are similarly trying to look sexy and hard and not really succeeding. And then there’s TOP. Who looks absolutely adorable next to everyone else. He looks like he’s in the middle of some SNSD cover performance. I love it. So much.

Did I just review this picture of BIGBANG? Yes. I did.

But how do I deconstruct this without pushing my own cultural and racial experiences onto it?

I know a bit about Korean culture but not near enough to be able to understand what something like this means in Seoul. Is this just a pretty boy? Is it more than just androgyny? Are we moving into trans* territory with this? How is this perceived by Koreans?

I guess I can talk about what it means to me. And I love it. It the comments there’s comparisons to Lady Gaga, Final Fantasy characters and Andrej Pejic. And a lot of “You’re prettier than me!” but with no negative implications. Mind you, these are probably all fan girls and fan girls rarely say negative things, even about new bands they haven’t had a chance to love yet.

Fucking fascinating, I tell you.

This, in my opinion, is much better that anything EXO has shown so far. I also really like the Skrillex-like drop in the middle. Heh.

Also, one of these days I need to write a paper about gender roles and gender expression in kpop. These boys are obviously being very tough, but they’re also projecting so many typically feminine qualities. Are the doing femme? Unlikely since femme requires conscious action and embracing of feminine practices. It’s fascinating to me.
